Germany opposes land swap idea

Members of German Bundestag, Peter Bauer from CDU and Christian Schmidt CSU, aftrer meeting Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj in Pristina asked Kosovo and Serbia to reach a peace agreement. German MPs have reiterated the official stance of their Government that Germany strongly opposes the idea on exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia which is promoted by President Hashim Thaci, Gazeta Express reports.  

Addressing media after the meeting with Kosovo PM Haradinaj, German MPs stated that they have discussed on Pristina-Belgrade dialogue noting that Germany supports the dialogue and hope the EU-facilitated talks in Berlin will resume soon. They stated that Germany’s stance on Kosovo is very clear, and Berlin is opposing the land swap idea promoted by Kosovo President Hashim Thaci. “Whoever thinks that problems would be solved through this idea [exchange of territories between Kosovo and Serbia], he or she should be aware that is creating new problems not only for Kosovo but the entire region,” German MPs stated. They also confirmed Germany’s support to Kosovo.
